Protaras isn’t one long beach — it’s a string of small, distinct bays, each with its own character, and almost all holding Blue Flag status for water quality. Here’s how to pick the right one, or hit several in a day.
Fig Tree Bay
Protaras’ signature beach and one of the most photographed stretches of coast in Cyprus: a golden crescent with shallow, crystal-clear water and a small islet just offshore you can wade or swim out to.
- Best for: First-time visitors, families with young kids, anyone wanting full facilities on the sand
- Facilities: Full — sunbeds, umbrellas, watersports, beach bars, restaurants, lifeguards
- Getting there: Central Protaras, walkable from most hotels including Capo Bay Hotel and King Jason Protaras, which sit right above it
- Tip: Arrive before 10am in July/August to get sunbeds without a wait
Konnos Bay
A sheltered, dramatic cove below the Grecian Park Hotel, backed by pine-covered cliffs — consistently rated one of the best beaches in Cyprus.
- Best for: Snorkelling, couples, anyone wanting a more scenic (less built-up) setting
- Facilities: Sunbeds and a beach bar, but smaller and simpler than Fig Tree Bay
- Getting there: A short drive or taxi from central Protaras, on the road toward Cape Greco; parking fills up fast in summer
- Tip: Go early morning or after 5pm in peak season — this is the most crowded beach in the area by midday
Green Bay
A smaller, quieter bay popular with divers and snorkellers thanks to the reef just offshore.
- Best for: Diving, snorkelling, a calmer atmosphere than Fig Tree Bay
- Facilities: Basic — some sunbeds, a beach bar nearby, no major watersports operation
- Getting there: Northern end of the Protaras coastline, a short drive from the centre
Pernera Beach
A local favourite in northern Protaras, with a good spread of nearby tavernas and a more residential, less touristy feel.
- Best for: Visitors staying nearby who want a quieter alternative without travelling far
- Facilities: Sunbeds, a handful of beach bars and tavernas within walking distance
Louma Beach
Close to Pernera, generally quieter still, with calm, shallow water.
- Best for: A low-key beach day away from the main strip
- Facilities: Basic — check locally for seasonal sunbed rental
Vrissiana & Vrisi Beach
Two connected, flat, shallow bays — some of the gentlest water entry in the area.
- Best for: Families with very young children or weaker swimmers
- Facilities: Sunbeds and nearby cafés; less crowded than Fig Tree Bay
