Cablenet Famagusta Run – Run by the Sea in Protaras

The Cablenet Famagusta Run | Protaras 30km Race: A Coastal Endurance Journey

The Cablenet Famagusta Run, specifically its flagship Protaras 30km Race, has rapidly become a crown jewel in the Mediterranean running calendar. Set against the backdrop of Cyprus’s most stunning turquoise waters, this event is more than a test of physical stamina—it is a symbolic journey through the heart of the Famagusta district.

Whether you are an elite athlete using the distance as a final tune-up for a late-autumn marathon or a passionate amateur looking to push your limits, the 30km distance offers a unique “sweet spot” of endurance and scenic beauty.

Cablenet Famagusta Race Details

The 30km race is designed for committed runners who want to experience the full breadth of the Protaras coastline.

  • Date: Sunday, October 11, 2026
  • Start Time: 07:30 AM (to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures)
  • 4 hours (official support remains for up to 5 hours)
  • Start/Finish Line: The iconic Fig Tree Bay (Municipal Parking Area)

The Cablenet Famagusta Run Course

The route is a masterclass in coastal running. It begins at Fig Tree Bay and heads southeasterly toward the rugged beauty of Cape Greco.
Runners will navigate a series of loops that cover the main arteries of the resort area, including Cavo Greko Avenue and Pernera Avenue. The course is primarily flat and asphalted, providing a fast surface, though the 146m elevation gain adds enough variety to keep the legs engaged.

Hydration & Support: High-standard aid stations are positioned approximately every 2.5km to 3km, providing water, isotonic drinks, and fruit to help runners manage the Mediterranean sun.

Area Details: Discovering Protaras

Protaras is the coastal face of the Paralimni-Deryneia Municipality. Known for having some of the cleanest waters in Europe, it provides a vibrant, high-energy atmosphere for the race weekend.

The race hub is centered at Fig Tree Bay, (Google Map) consistently ranked among the top beaches in Europe. Its shallow, crystal-clear waters and fine golden sand make it the perfect place for a post-race “ice bath” or a relaxing afternoon with family.

Cape Greco National Forest Park

Just a short distance from the race route lies Cape Greco. For runners staying a few extra days, the park offers breathtaking nature trails, sea caves, and the famous Agioi Anargyroi chapel. It is a haven for photography and quiet reflection away from the race-day buzz.

Hospitality and Atmosphere – Where to Stay

The region is famous for its “endless summer.” In October, the air temperature usually hovers around a comfortable 25°C, with sea temperatures remaining warm enough for swimming. The local culinary scene—ranging from traditional Cypriot meze to high-end international seafood—ensures that your “carb-loading” and post-race celebrations will be world-class.

Pro Tip: Arrive at least 60 minutes before the 07:30 start. This allows you to soak in the sunrise over the Mediterranean, store your gear at the secure baggage area, and find your rhythm before the starting pistol fires.
